Auckland Harbour Bridge

It was a picture I wanted to take a long time ago. With a beautiful sky tonight I decided to go during the Blue Hour, just before the sky becomes very dark. It was maybe a little bit too late, but this period is so short that you don't have to miss your photo!

To talk a little bit more about the bridge, it was completed in 1959 to link The Central Business District of Auckland with the North Shore. It was a real improvement as before the Aucklanders had to drive for 50km around the Waitemata Harbour.

The funny story is that originaly the bridge had only four lanes. However only 10 years it was opened, they decided to add 4 others as the traffic was increasing very quickly. Then 2 sections built by japanese companies where clipped on each side which led to the nickname "Nippon clip-ons".

Nowadays, this part of the motorway is still very busy and it's pretty long to travel from north to south in morning or the contrary when the day is over.
